Mayors Message –
It is a huge honour to have been elected as Town Mayor for 2024/25. I am keen to get out and about to meet as many groups, charities and organisations as possible. My chosen charities for the year ahead are Bradford Keighley and Skipton Disability Athletics Club and the Al-falah Society.
I want to thank my predecessor Cllr John Kirby for all his work over the last 12 months, John did a brilliant job as Mayor and represented the Council and the town at many local and regional events.
I would also like to thank all the Town Councillors for putting their trust in me to serve as Town Mayor for the next 12 months. My focus during my time in office will be young people and working on greater community cohesion.
The next 12 months is an pivotal time for our town, we will see the initial three year investment plan for the Long Term Town Fund, that will be up to £6m of the £20m allocated to Keighley over the next 10 years, we all need to work together to ensure this investment is used to its maximum to improve the town for the better.
We will also hopefully see the initial draft of the Keighley Neighbourhood Development Plan, this plan will set out policies relating to future developments in the town and address challenges around our heritage buildings, green spaces, town centre and our connectivity.
Finally, I want to thank my family for their support ahead of my year in office.
Cllr Gulfraz Hussain
