As part of the Walking Festival, we are offering free and subsidised training available to anyone who has an interest in becoming a walk leader or starting a walking group.

Bronze Navigator Award – National Navigation Award Scheme (nnas.org.uk) 2-day accredited course,

7th & 8th September 2024, Low Wood Scout Camping and Activity Centre, subsidised cost of £45 per person

This training is delivered by Move2change. The Bronze National Navigation Award is a practical hands-on award. It is aimed at people with no navigation experience whether you are new to the outdoors or have been relying on others, guidebooks or easy well-defined routes.

The syllabus of the Bronze National Navigation Award teaches navigation in the countryside using paths tracks and other linear features. Basic map interpretation and compass work is also included.

NHS Walk Leader Level 2 training programme

2nd  September – Full day session (10.00 – 16.00) or 5th  September – 18.00 – 20.30 &  10th  September – 18.00 – 20.30 , Civic Centre, Free

Walk leader training suited to anyone who has an interest in leading a walking group. Join either a full day session or two evening sessions. Delivered by North of England Activities and Training. Units include Conservation and Access, First Aid, Accidents and Emergencies, Navigation, Group Leadership, Planning and Preparation and Equipment.
